Market Basket Workshop
Description
Market Basket Workshop with Dona Nazarenko Saturday, August 22nd, 2026 9:00 – 5:00pm Join us in the Great Stone Dwelling dining room for a full day workshop! Market baskets are one the most classic and traditional baskets made years ago and still basketmakers continue to make them even today. A charming and useful addition to every home, these baskets can be personalized by adding a touch of color into the weave and by inserting a delicate handle. Participants will use natural reed, paired with a wood handle, and can choose to add color accents if desired.  All skill levels welcome.  Some basketmaking experience helpful. This rectangular basket measures approximately 11″ x 6 1/2″   Who is Doña Nazerenko? Residing in Tunbridge, Vermont, Doña Nazarenko has been weaving since 1988 and teaching since 1994. While living along the New Jersey coast, Doña developed an interest in woodcrafts and related art forms that developed into her desire to take basket making classes in 1988. Her exploration of a different art medium has since evolved into a flourishing talent. She now enjoys making traditional baskets using reed with wooden accents to more challenging baskets using birch bark from the area surrounding her current residence in rural Vermont. The highlight of the early years at her craft was having a one-on-one critique with John McGuire at Peter’s Gallery in 1992. His confidence in her and his discretion continues to help her with her current work. Today she can be seen demonstrating basketry representing Vermont fiber artists at local and out-of-state events. Most days she can be found working in her studio at Country Spirit Baskets Please bring your own lunch. Water and light refreshments will be provided. Cost: Museum Members – $70 Non-Members – $80 All proceeds go to the educational mission of Enfield Shaker Museum. Coming from a distance? Stay at the historic Great Stone Dwelling.
